Start a career where you’ll always be in demand. This programme is for school leavers and people looking to start a new career as a Bricklayer or Site Carpenter in England, Wales or Scotland. You can also become a Plumber and Electrician apprentice, but these roles are in Scotland only.
You will split your time between on-site work and college, as you train to become a fully qualified Tradesperson. Your path will depend on where you live:
In England and Wales
Your apprenticeship starts with an 18-month Intermediate Trade Apprenticeship (Level 2), run with Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire and York College, in York.
Across your apprenticeship, you’ll attend 10 one-week residential blocks of training, with your accommodation, meals and travel all paid, and return home each weekend. The rest of the time, you’ll spend on site, working with one of our subcontractors on real-world projects.
If you’re thriving on programme, you may have the opportunity to progress on to an Advanced Trade Apprenticeship (Level 3) qualification, completing a further year of study and on-site training.
In Scotland
Your apprenticeship is four-year Modern Trade Apprenticeship (Level 6). In year one you’ll spend 18 weeks in college, along with on-site work. In year two you’ll experience 10 weeks in college, along with on-site work. In years three and four, you’ll spend two years in the workplace, which ends with a skills test. In the third year, some apprentices can go on to complete an Advanced Trade Apprenticeship (Level 7).
Applications for 2024 have closed. Make sure you apply before applications close in your location, as we don’t recruit outside the application window.
We pay industry-leading BATJIC (The Building and Allied Trades Joint Industry Council) rates in England and Wales (with London and South East weighting where appropriate) and SBATC (The Scottish Building Apprenticeship and Training Council) rates in Scotland.
We’re interested in your potential, as well as your experience. You will need to:
Show confidence to take the lead, take ownership and make it happen.
Strive to deliver excellence working outdoors on site.
Act with honesty and integrity.
Use your hand skills to produce quality work.
Desire to learn, grow and succeed.
Value and respect others as individuals.
Embrace new ideas that improves what we do.
Put our customers first.
The apprenticeship qualification you’ll receive is recognised internationally and across the industry.
Whichever trade you specialise in, you’ll have plenty of options once you’re finished. You could go self-employed, work for one of our sub-contractors, or even join us a permanent qualified tradesperson, depending on where you’re based. Some Apprentices move onto Higher and Degree Apprenticeships or our internal pathways to Site Supervision. The career pathway could eventually lead you to Site Management. In fact, many of our current site team members started with us through an apprenticeship.
Our vacancies and locations for this programme vary each year but will be available across the mainland of the UK. You will need to live within a 45-minute public transport commute of the advertised site, or within a 1 hour commute, if you have your own transport.
