We are proud to partner with York College to support a talented cohort of female apprentices in their journey to become fully-qualified bricklayers. Through a combination of industry-leading college learning and practical on-site experience, these Level 2 Apprentices are already making a significant impact in our business.
Among them, Becky Barribal has discovered that bricklaying provides structure and focus, helping her manage ADHD, while Faith Banthorpe is fulfilling her long-held ambition of working in the housebuilding industry. Their dedication, along with that of their peers, is shaping the future of construction.
With the government’s commitment to accelerating housebuilding and addressing the national trade skills shortage, there has never been a better time to develop a skill in the trades. Since 2024, we have significantly increased female representation in our Trade Apprenticeship Programme intake from an industry-standard 2-6% to 36%. We are dedicated to driving positive change and continue to #BuildWithoutBarriers.
Through internal employee networks such as SheBuilds, we provide peer-to-peer support, networking, and signposting to resources for women working on-site.
For those interested in pursuing a career in housebuilding, our apprenticeship programmes offer all the tools you need to launch your career in an industry where you’ll always be in demand.
