Application Hints and Tips

Every application is reviewed by us and used as a tool to decide whether a candidate can be progressed through to the next recruitment stage.

We want to see as many applications as possible progress through, therefore we have put together some hints and tips to help you make the most of your application form. Please see the below:

  1. Take your time

Even though the application form is designed to be completed anywhere, if possible apply and take assessments on a laptop or a device with a ‘proper’ keyboard. This will make it less likely that you will select the wrong answer on a touch screen or make typos by mistake. Also complete your application in a quiet place free of distractions. After all, if you select the wrong option or perform badly on the assessments, your application could be rejected.

  1. Update your CV and LinkedIn profile

We’ll be asking you to upload your CV, so make sure it’s up to date and relevant to the role you are applying for. If you have a LinkedIn profile, make sure that’s up to date too. We may also request that you send electronic copies (or photos) of any relevant qualification certificates.

  1. Do your research

You will be asked questions about what’s motivated you to apply for a position at Barratt Redrow. Make sure you take some time to look at which role you would like to apply for. We sometimes advertise multiple positions available across different disciplines, but sure to apply for just one to showcase your dedication to that career.

  1. Always read the question carefully

Make sure that you answer all elements of the question. Try printing off or saving the questions on a separate document and highlighting each part – this should help you to provide structured and full answers.

  1. Be specific

Please make sure that you refer directly to Barratt Redrow as an organisation. It is often obvious when candidates ‘copy and paste’ generic answers across applications (particularly if another organisation/programme is mentioned – oops!). Also make sure that any evidence you submit as part of your application are truthful and factually accurate. We genuinely want to see the real you, so it’s important that the ideas and experiences you present are your own and not borrowed or generated by artificial intelligence

  1. Double Check!

It is very important to sense check; spell check and grammar check your work. Why not ask a friend or family member to have a look too? This will help to make sure that you’re making the best first impression possible. Please make sure that you fill out all the details in the application. Missing integral parts out shows a lack of attention to detail, and if it is your contact details that you miss out, this could be critical to your application.

  1. Let your personality shine

If you are passionate, we want to see this jump off the page. We encourage you to be personable, but professional, and express what really excites you about the industry, the programme or the organisation.

From all of us at Barratt Redrow, we wish you good luck with your application.
